Debbie is an avid water colour painter, mainly self-taught, having inherited the talent from both sides of her family. Her uncle on her father’s side dabbled in painting as a hobby, and her mother was quite gifted in both painting as a young girl, and creating lovely floral arrangements, crafts and sewing tapestries in her older years.
Over the years, Debbie has painted off and on. However, when she migrated to Grenada for a few years, she learnt another technique when she attended an art course hosted by Judith Jarvis, a trained Art Major, who taught at The St. George’s University.
She has fallen in love with a style of using ink and bleach to produce stunning pieces of art. Also whilst on that island, Debbie was invited to join a group of ladies who were making beautiful pieces of craft to sell in an Art Market, the proceeds of which went to charities supporting two underprivileged schools. For the first time she used acrylics to paint inside calabashes, on serving trays, bamboo and on driftwood. She also learnt to use glass paint to create images on bottles and drinking glasses.
