James became a full time professional in 1992 after achieving success in local PIATT photo contests. He left T&T in 1997 to further his career aboard cruise ships where he met his first mentor Monte Zucker. Monte guided James during that time while working in all areas of the Photo Department.

Returning to T&T in 2010 after photographing over two million people, he immediately sought to give back by collaborating with Nexus Studios where he conducted his mentoring sessions as homage to his mentor. He went on to join the committee of the Trinidad and Tobago Photographic Society in 2013. He was inducted as a director/founding member and the first Tini on the team where he served for five years.

He was elected to the board of the Art Society of T&T in 2017 as 1st Vice President, joining with a mandate to bridge the gap between artists and photographers as he worked to ensure that photography gets the recognition it deserves as visual art. 

James was announced unanimous winner of the European Union Delegation to T&T’s Unity which was managed by the Photographers Guild of T&T on 25th February 2021 with Humanity’s Lifeline in the Professional Photography category. This is the second E.U. contest he has won in a row, the previous being the eXpressions photo and art competition with “The Labasse of Our Lives” that focused on The Environment and Climate Change under the theme ” My World My Responsibility”.

Unity in Diversity and Stronger Together as well as, Build Back Better and the Sustainable Development Goals James is the owner of RAPSO Imaging Limited, a Professional Photography and Imaging Service which he co-founded with his former partner Rachel Lee Young in 2016.
